LINIEN (lines)
This line of investigation started out with my passion for patterns.
The constant repeating, the ongoing of the same shapes in complicated compositions reminded me of the human mind and how it tends to move along the same tracks, reproducing similar situations and stories and creating repetitive behaviours.
So I started to paint portraits with patterns containing representative symbols for thoughts or emotions as backdrops.
Feeling unable to represent the whole of a person, with his passions, behaviours, obsessions and joys I started to include emptiness, void spaces into the portraits.
The borders forming around these void spaces led me to the line. A Line that moves along the borders of emptiness, linking our different parts together – representative for the things in life, that keeps us together, keep us going, make us strong, that give us a sense and a reason in life. The red thread through our life stories is something I never stop wondering what it actually might be.
My sources of inspiration for this line of work are the sculptors Julio Gonzales and Pau Garghallo, who are working with the void as an important part of their Sculptures
